The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi State Command, has praised Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his steadfast commitment to security, describing him as a “security-conscious leader” whose proactive approach has positioned Ebonyi as the most peaceful state in the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria.
State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Nnadi Francis Chika, made the remark during a strategic meeting with members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and the Civil Defence Community (CDC) at the Corps’ headquarters in Abakaliki.
Nnadi noted that the two volunteer groups play a vital role in enhancing security, fostering trust, and strengthening cooperation between law enforcement and local communities. He urged members to intensify intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and public security awareness at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the successes of the recently launched “Operation Know Your Neighbour”, the Commandant said the initiative has improved community vigilance and early detection of criminal activities. He emphasized that proactive security measures are far more effective than reactive responses in combating crime.
Nnadi also announced plans to expand security awareness campaigns to schools across the state to instill vigilance and discipline among students. He pledged to “sanitize Ebonyi by defending the defenseless” while stressing the importance of offering opportunities for offenders to change and contribute positively to society.
In their separate remarks, the Ebonyi State Chairmen of the PCRC and CDC, Elder Michael Nwafor Mkpukpu and Mr. Nmesoma Egwu, pledged stronger collaboration with security agencies. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, intelligence sharing, and active community participation to sustain the state’s security gains.
The PCRC and CDC serve as community arms of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), facilitating cooperation between security agencies and local communities.
However, the meeting, attended by senior NSCDC officers and leaders of the volunteer groups, concluded with a renewed resolve to deepen partnerships, safeguard lives and property, and strengthen communal vigilance in all the nooks and crannies of Ebonyi State.
