Awka– Nigeria’s first female Professor of Mass Communication, Prof. Stella Okunna, has urged students of the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, to remain focused on their studies and make the most of the opportunities available to them while in school.
She warned that the chance to acquire quality academic knowledge may not come again after graduation, advising students to avoid distractions that could derail their future.
Prof. Okunna spoke on Friday during the “Beyond the Lecture Hall” programme organised by the Association of Mass Communication Students (ASOMACS) at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) Hall, UNIZIK.
In his remarks, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Adum, urged students to take their academic pursuits seriously and encouraged them to approach their lecturers whenever they encounter challenges.
Also speaking, Nollywood actor Azubuike Michael advised the students to trust in God, acquire vocational skills and remain committed to their education.
According to him, “School is not a scam, but get a skill so that if school doesn’t pay, the skill will pay.”
Other speakers stressed the importance of entrepreneurship, responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), information technology literacy and quality content creation as essential tools for success in today’s digital world.
While the event attracted lecturers, media professionals, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders, awards were presented to distinguished guests.
