….Reinstates Imo-Eze as Leader

The leadership crisis rocking the Coalition of Local Media Unit of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, has been resolved following a reconciliation meeting that produced Mrs Chinwe Imo-Eze as the substantive leader of the unit, with Mr Wilson Okereke emerging as auxiliary leader.
The peace process, held at the NUJ Press Secretariat in Abakaliki on Monday, was facilitated by the Ebonyi State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Samson Nwafor, who led members through a series of deliberations aimed at ending the prolonged leadership dispute.
The reconciliation involved two strategic meetings held the same day during which members unanimously agreed to restructure the unit’s leadership to restore peace, strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the body for effective service delivery within the union.
The crisis had reportedly created division among members, with supporters of the former leadership and those aligned with Mrs Imo-Eze’s faction locked in disagreement, a development that prompted the intervention of the NUJ leadership.
During one of the meetings, the immediate past, Mr Celestine Oke highlighted some of his tenure and reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of members, but announced his decision to step aside from any future leadership role in the unit.
The NUJ State Council Chairman, Comrade Nwafor who called for a consensus-based leadership selection process, stressed the need for peace, unity, professionalism and inclusiveness in the unit.
Mrs Chinwe Imo-Eze and Mr Wilson Okereke in their acceptance remarks, pledged to work with all members and ensure of transparent, inclusive and ethical leadership.
Speaking after the reconciliation, the Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr Emmanuel Idiam Irem, commended Comrade Nwafor for his timely intervention and urged members to remain united, while Mr Ndubuisi Andy of Glorious FM described the outcome as a welcome development.
Other members described the resolution as a major step toward rebuilding trust and unity in the Coalition of Local Media Unit and consolidating harmony within the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
