A pro-President Bola Tinubu solidarity march has swept through various parts of Ebonyi State, with thousands of residents taking to the streets to reaffirm their support for the President and counter the alleged anti-Tinubu protests ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

More than 15,000 protesters, under the aegis of Ebonyi United Forum, reportedly participated in the march, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards bearing inscriptions such as “Tinubu Beyond 2027,” “Tinubu Must Stay” and “We Believe in Tinubu.”

The protesters, who marched through major streets in Abakaliki and other parts of the state, used the demonstration to express their support for the Tinubu administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing the crowd in Abakaliki, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, commended the participants for demonstrating their solidarity with President Tinubu, describing their peaceful march as a reflection of their confidence in the President’s leadership.

Umahi alleged that some political opportunists were sponsoring anti-Tinubu demonstrations to create the impression of declining public acceptance of the President, particularly in parts of Northern Nigeria and other regions.

He maintained that Nigerians who understood the direction of the current administration would not willingly participate in protests against a government he said was repositioning the country through reforms aimed at restoring economic growth and development.

The Minister further argued that the opposition lacked a clear political direction and substantial issues with which to challenge Tinubu, insisting that the President’s achievements had left his critics with little or nothing to campaign against.

Similarly, the leader of the solidarity march and convener of Ebonyi United Forum, Comrade Chinedu Nwali, said the group organised the demonstration to register its displeasure with what it described as deliberate distractions by opposition elements against the Tinubu administration.

Nwali explained that the march was also designed to sensitise residents, particularly youths, to what the group considered the achievements of the President, while reaffirming its determination to defend the administration against what he called political distractions.

He warned that Ebonyi would not tolerate what he described as campaigns of calumny against President Tinubu, Governor Francis Nwifuru and the Minister of Works, adding that the people of the South-East were prepared to demonstrate their support for the President.

According to him, Ebonyi residents would not remain indifferent while political interests attempted to undermine an administration that had facilitated infrastructure development in the South-East through the Minister of Works.

“If other states are sitting on the fence, we Ebonyians are not going to sit on the fence. We must make our stand known because we are people who show appreciation for the numerous projects Mr President has used our son to execute in the South-East and Nigeria in general.

“This solidarity protest or march, as you may call it, is to warn that the state is locked for Mr President and Governor Nwifuru. Nobody should bring any form of madness in the name of political distraction because we shall resist them with everything legally and morally possible,” Nwali said.

He also declared the group’s support for Umahi, describing the Minister as their son and insisting that he deserved the backing of the people for his political convictions and support for President Tinubu.

Nwali further maintained that the demonstration was intended to communicate Ebonyi’s political position to the rest of the country, warning those he described as political detractors against attempting to destabilise the state through protests or other forms of political agitation.

The solidarity march ended with protesters reiterating their support for President Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru and Umahi as they moved through various locations across the state, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards in support of the APC-led administrations.
