…Ebonyi Govt Focused on Governance
By Abraham Ovuoba
The All Progressives Congress in Ebonyi State has dismissed as baseless the recent allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party over an alleged plot to revoke its state secretariat, describing the claims as a desperate attempt to mislead the public and divert attention from the opposition party’s internal crisis.
In a statement signed by State Assistant Publicity Secretary, Kenechukwu Arum, the APC said the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru remains committed to constitutional democracy, political tolerance and the rule of law.
The party accused the PDP of resorting to alarmist narratives to gain sympathy, insisting there was no hostility toward opposition parties in the state.
According to the APC, issues relating to land administration and regulatory compliance are handled strictly through due process and should not be politicised.
The ruling party further noted that while the PDP battles internal divisions nationally, Governor Nwifuru remains focused on delivering good governance through infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare and economic development under his People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
The statement reads in parts;
“RE: PDP’S BASELESS ALLEGATIONS, DESPERATE MOVE TO MISLEAD THE PUBLIC
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State Chapter, has taken note of the recent press statement issued by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi State Chapter, filled with unfounded allegations, and deliberate attempts to mislead the public over imaginary threats that exist only in the minds of its promoters.
Ordinarily, the APC would not dignify such a desperate and speculative statement with a response, but it has become necessary to reassure Ebonyi people and the general public that the government of our able Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru remains firmly committed to constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of every legitimate political interest and individual in the state, irrespective of party affiliation.
It is both unfortunate and disappointing that a party which once governed Ebonyi State for over two decades now appears more interested in manufacturing political tension than offering constructive opposition capable of advancing democratic development.
At no time has the Ebonyi State Government, under the indefatigable leadership of Governor Nwifuru, declared or demonstrated hostility toward opposition parties or democratic institutions. Governor Nwifuru’s administration has consistently maintained an open-door policy, political tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, making Ebonyi one of the most politically, peaceful and stable states in Nigeria today.
The attempt by the PDP to create public panic over alleged plans concerning its party secretariat is clearly unfounded and a diversionary tactic aimed at masking its internal crisis and declining political relevance in the state. Truly a died party with a few disgruntled individuals.
The PDP must understand that no individual, institution or political party is above the law. Where issues relating to land administration, property documentation, or regulatory compliance arise, such matters are governed strictly by law, due process and not political sentiments or manufactured blackmail.
It is therefore misleading and irresponsible for the shattered PDP to deliberately politicise routine governance processes in a bid to attract sympathy and create unnecessary tension.
Meanwhile, at the national level, the PDP remains in disarray, weakened by deep internal divisions and leadership tussles. It is troubling that such a statement would be issued by faceless individuals without clear identity or affiliation. The party is urged to urgently put its house in order rather than manufacturing confusion, and seeking unnecessary sympathy.
The APC wishes to remind the PDP that democracy guarantees freedom of political participation for all parties, but it also demands responsibility, maturity, and respect for public order.
Rather than resorting to alarmist narratives and unnecessary political drama, the opposition should focus on rebuilding itself and presenting alternative ideas to the people of Ebonyi State.
Governor Nwifuru remains focused on delivering good governance through infrastructure development, youth empowerment, education reforms, agricultural initiatives, healthcare improvement and economic transformation under the “People’s Charter of Needs” agenda.
The visible peace, progress and unprecedented development across Ebonyi State today are clear evidence that this administration is focused more on governance than political distractions. A government that has empowered many Ebonyians without political godfathers to emerge as its flag bearers in the forthcoming general elections cannot stoop so low as to be entangled in the affairs of a political party already in comatose.
We therefore urge members of the public to disregard the PDP’s statement, which is clearly designed to create tension and chaos where none exists.
Ebonyi State remains peaceful. Democracy remains strong. The government of our dear and workaholic Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, remains focused”.
